Pool electrical services

Pool safety comes first

Water and electricity are a dangerous mix, so pool electrical work has strict rules under the Australian wiring rules (AS/NZS 3000). Power points, switchboards and electrical equipment must be kept outside set distances from the pool edge, everything must be protected by safety switches, and the pool itself must be bonded to the electrical earthing system. We often see pool equipment that isn't compliant, and we'll always tell you straight if something needs fixing. One of our Google reviewers wrote that we pointed out their pool was too close to the switchboard and sent them the relevant rules.

Pool bonding and bond points

Equipotential bonding connects the pool's steel reinforcement, metal fittings and nearby conductive parts to the electrical earth. It stops dangerous voltage differences building up in and around the water. Bonding is normally done when a pool is built, with a bond point left for the electrician to connect. We connect and test pool bonding for new pools, and check it when pools are renovated or new equipment is added.

Pool lights not working?

Pool lights often fail because of a blown globe, a failed transformer or water getting into the fitting. We'll find the fault, replace the transformer or light, and can upgrade old halogen pool lights to energy-efficient LED, including colour-changing lights you control from a remote or your phone.

Pool pumps and heat pumps

A new pool pump or heat pump usually needs its own circuit, weatherproof isolation and enough spare capacity in your switchboard. Heat pumps in particular draw a lot of power, so we check your switchboard and supply first. If your board is too full or out of date, we can do a switchboard upgrade at the same time.

Lewis is a very professional and honest electrician! He came the same day for a quote and pointed out our pool was too close to the switchboard, which is against the law, and sent us the legislation by email. We're so grateful for Lewis's professional and kind heart.
