Exit and emergency lighting has to work when the power fails, which is the opposite of every other circuit in the building, so we run these off dedicated battery-backed fittings tested to AS 2293 rather than treating them as an afterthought on the general lighting circuit. Exit sign spacing and lux levels are set out in the standard, not guesswork, so we position fittings to actually meet the coverage a fire engineer or certifier will check for, and every install finishes with a commissioning discharge test logged for the compliance file.Most of our work on existing buildings is servicing, not new installs: a monthly function test and an annual 90-minute discharge test keep the system compliant, and we flag failing batteries or globes before they show up on an auditor’s report. We keep a logbook for each site so the body corporate, property manager or building certifier has the paperwork on hand whenever it’s asked for.
