Before we run a new circuit we check what the switchboard's actually got left in it - available ways in the board and spare capacity on the main switch - because there's no point wiring a new circuit for a room addition or a workshop only to find the board needs upgrading anyway to take it. Circuit sizing is based on the actual load, not a standard size, so a high-draw appliance like an oven or a spa gets a dedicated circuit sized to it rather than shared with general power.Where we’re adding several circuits at once - a home office fit-out, a workshop, a granny flat - we plan the cable runs and labelling together rather than one at a time, so the switchboard ends up organised rather than a string of ad-hoc additions that are hard to identify later. Every new circuit is tested for insulation resistance and correct polarity before we sign off.
